While no ranking system is perfect, we
do believe that our system offers a methodology
that is straightforward and forthright. Our points system is straight forward and is by design a total combination of any one teams cumalative results of all events participated in during the 2011 season.
All teams
are eligible to be ranked. State rankings will be a combinaton of all of the major youth baseball organizations in California that offer and post valid national and local California rankings and any other valid youth baseball organization in the state that host sanctioned youth baseball tournaments with results that can be verified by CABN. Tournaments that begin at the end
of a month and conclude at the beginning of a month (e.g. A three day
tournament that begins on November 29 and ends December 1) will
be credited to the month in which that tournament concluded. The
above example would mean the points would be considered for December,
not November.
Teams participating
in tournaments where there are less than four teams competing in
their division will receive less power points as a deciding factor in two teams or multiple teams being tied in our ranking system.
If a team competes in an older division in a particular tournament and earns points, those points will follow the team back down to their normal age division.
Points are earned for 1st through
4th place finishes in nationally sanctioned tournaments. Currently
the following sanctioning bodies recognized by CABN are:
USSSA - Unites States Specialty Sports Association
TCS - Triple Crown Sports
USTSA (USA) - United States Travel Sports Association
AAU - Amateur Athletic Union
CABA - Continental Amateur Baseball Association
New for 2010/2011
In an effort to serve the travel team community and after further review, the following State Rankings modifications shall go into effect September 15th, 2010.
1. One day tournaments results. There shall be points awarded for one day tournaments and shall be awarded with half the power points of a regular two day event. Three day events are awarded more power points than a two day event.
Points are
tallied after each sanctioned tournament by each sanctioning youth baseball organization. The team with the most
accumulated points from all of the recognized youth baseball organization will be ranked 1st in the state.
All tournament
finishes are submitted to CABN by the sanctioning bodies. Any discrepancies
with finishes should be directed to the tournament organization
and not to CABN. Out of state teams are not listed in our ranking
system. Points earned by an out of state team are taken out of the
formula. They are not awarded to the next California team in line (e.g.
If your team finishes 3rd while an out of state finishes 2nd, you
will still be awarded third place finish points).
If a team participates in an
out of state tournament and finishes in the top four of their division,
they are eligible to receive points provided the team submits to
CABN a website link where CABN may verify the tournament results.
They are also eligible to receive bonus points for 1st place finishes.
Tournaments that are organized, operated and run by Open Entry but can provide only one division - Tournament finishers will be awarded points equivalent to the mid-level ranking, even though their sanctioning body might offer both divisions. CABN is not bound nor obligated to a national organization's system of ranking.
The Upper Division Points System will awarded only in an open format, whereby a tournament offers top level competition for any team wishing to participate and where two distinct divisions are offered and played in that tournament.
CABN's commitment is always to act on behalf of all teams involved in California travel team competition.
The ranking
calendar is August 1 through July 31. National tournaments that carry over will be considered as
a tournament held prior to July 31 provided teams play in that age division.
Other sanctioning
bodies may petition CABN for consideration at any time. CABN does
not use non-sanctioned, irregularly sanctioned or independent tournaments
in its ranking process.
If a team disbands, CABN must
be notified by the manager. Once verified, that team shall be removed
from the formula.
